Each December, Goose Creek Meeting celebrates Christmas with a Sunday evening potluck dinner and carol sing. This year’s gathering was large and merry, and we particularly enjoyed seeing young Friends home from college or work for the holidays.
We feel, as all do, the effects of the current economy. Our Meeting’s income is down, and at the same time the needs of the community around us are increasing. We welcome the upcoming presentation at Goose Creek by BYM’s Robinne Gray on ways of dealing with these financial challenges.
We work, corporately and individually, to find ways of responding to the needs of the wider world. One of our members attended the FCNL annual conference in November and has spoken to Meeting about it. In response, our Peace and Social Concerns Committee has established a voluntary email list to alert its members about upcoming bills in Congress and other occasions when FCNL asks Friends to send letters and emails.
A number of Goose Creek Friends have helped to found Friends of the Blue Ridge Mountains, an organization dedicated to preserving the beauty and healthy ecosystems of our local area.
